About us - The Naturally Crafted Story
Hello! My name is Jewelles, the owner of Naturally Crafted Bexhill. We are a small gifts and crafts shop in Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex, UK. This is the story of who we are and how Naturally Crafted Bexhill came to be.
From humble beginnings - the gift that kept on giving!
The beginning of our journey starts one christmas when my wonderful son bought me a pyrography kit as a present. Pyrography (the art of burning engraved markings into wood) was something that I had seen a few times online and wanted to try, but little did I know at the time that I would quickly become a natural at it...
Entering the crafting world...
With friends and family telling me I should sell my pyrography art work, I started 'Pyrography by Jewelles' and began selling some of my pieces at local craft fairs and markets - It was amazing that people wanted to buy what I had made!
As well as finding out that my art work was good enough to sell, and enjoying the interactions with customers, I also met a number of other makers and crafters who were selling some wonderful things at the local craft fairs and markets. The local crafter community is so vibrant and full of talent, but there aren't many places to show that talent off! So... when a small unit inside of Bexhill's Indoor Shopping Mall became available for a six month let at a very affordable rent, I took a risk and jumped at the opportunity! This is when Naturally Crafted Bexhill was born!
From small beginnings to big futures...
Our first shop was officially opened by Bexhill's Deputy Mayor, Claire Baldry in November 2022. Here, we sold my pyrography art works, plus some of the brilliant crafts from some of the local crafters that I had met at craft fairs, plus others that joined in when we opened. It was like a little crafters' market and it was a huge success!
This was also when I first found some of our ethical, fair trade suppliers who source some incredible hand made and expertly crafted items from places like Bali, Nepal and elsewhere in the UK and the rest of the world. These wonderful products are made by skilled artisans and the fair trade element ensures that they are paid properly for their crafts.
After our huge success inside the Bexhill Shopping Mall, we realised that we had outgrown this small space and so, when the opportunity came, we moved our shop to the bigger unit next to the Mall, opened by our local Rother District Councillor Christine Bayliss, which is where we are now; Naturally Crafted Bexhill 28a Western Road, Bexhill-on-Sea.
Ye olde dream grows
With our new Western Road shop open (and trade booming) we welcomed more local crafters and makers and our reputation in the local community grew. With such wonderful products, and a shop that was now operating smoothly, I was able to take some of our goods on the road! And where better to exhibit than ENGLAND'S MEDIEVAL FESTIVAL?!
Mother of Dragons!
With several years of medieval festivals now under our belt - it was time for something new! ... One 3D printer and some experiements later, our latest collection (Dragon Wagon) was born. We now make a whole range of 3D printed flexi-dragons and dragon eggs, with excellent designs from creators like Cinderwing3D and Kekreations, as well as some designs of our own.
The dragons are now very popular! So popular that some of our excellent local crafters have started making dragon related things for us too. Coasters, mugs, and even some dragon pyrography! A hit at the medieval festivals, and in our shop all year round. With dragons also comes other mythical items - DnD dice and dice towers, crystals and geodes, incense and backflow burners, a whole plethora of magical and fantastical items that have made our shop a hit locally.
A brave new (online) world!
And so here we are... Our new website (only days old at the time of writing this!). Initially, we are just selling items via drop shipping direct from some of our fair trade and ethical goods suppliers (Currently via Ancient Wisdom at the time of writing this). Our goal is to widen our selection to other suppliers and eventually to start selling our in-store items through here as well.
One day we may even have our local crafters and makers' products for sale on here - as well as our 3D dragons and my pyrography pieces. There are a lot of logistics involved in this though, and we need to make sure we have the capacity to fulfil orders in a timely manner before we launch into this frontier.
For now though, I am delighted that you can buy a range of quality goods from our suppliers at very good prices, and if you visit us in store or at an event you may even get a cheeky online discount code!
Thank you for reading our story, and if you'd like to get in touch please do so via the 'contact' page on this website, or by emailing naturallycraftedbexhill@outlook.com
Hope to see you in our Bexhill shop soon!
